Recent Developments and Future PlansFuture PlansAny time that we can spend outside of work is dedicated to working through the Census records and Surrey Mirror stories concerning the Lane. Once this is done (?), we will be looking at the Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Other future plans include a detailed look at the pubs in the Lane. Also, a great idea, which was sent in by Ros Ford, is to add a Correspondence Box, in which people will be able to exchange memories with other correspondents. We hope that the site will generate a lot of interest and that many of our readers will be able to provide us with new stories and information. If you have any other ideas for the site, please contact us. Recent Developments - March 2005Diary of EventsDecember 2007Much more work has been done on the past residents from the Census. We have had some great tales and photos from Barbara Curry, one of numbers 36 and 38 when they were shops (which have also been added onto the Then and Now Feature) and one of the Prince of Wales pub. May 2007More stories have been added and, with thanks to Mike Oehlers, an excellent aerial photograph on the 'Enter Nutley Lane' page. January 2007Two absolutely wonderful photos of Wickens Yard have been added for which we so extremely grateful to Matthew Wickens for. The yard was a major focal part of the Lane and these photos are a real window into a time now gone. July 2006A map, albeit rather crude one, of the underlying rock of Nutley Lane has been added to the Enter Nutley Lane page. Several more stories connected to Nutley Lane and some more photos have also been added. June 2006Various problems with PCs and changes by the site hosts have slowed things down, but now we're back on track. We've been in correspondence with Andy Dean, who now lives in Canada, but used to live in the Lane and Grove. Andy has supplied us with some wonderful information and photographs, all of which you can view from this special page. Feb 2006Many stories from back issues of The Surrey Mirror, some photos, some memories and Census details have been added since the last report and we continue with the same. May 2005A series of operations to put in prosthetic toe joints has help up any major developments on the site, but we have now posted up a copy of a booklet that details some of the history of the Lane - it really is an interesting read. We have also continued to add data from past Census. April 2005We have added some more photos of the church to accompany the information posted in October 2004, just to complete the picture. Our research through the back issues of the (Mid) Surrey Mirror has netted some good stories from 1880 and 1881, which have been posted onto the relevant areas of the website. Also, a chance discovery in the Surrey History Centre, has turned up some old photos from the 1950s of properties with advertising upon them, these have been added to the Then and Now section. We were extremely delighted to receive a letter from Ken Sturgess, whose father ran the grocer's shop at No.81. The memories of Ken's time in Nutley Lane make wonderful reading and we are extremely indebted to Ken for these. March 2005More photos of the church have been added, which show the interior as it is now. We have also been busy at the Surrey History Centre again, collecting Census information, which we have started to add to the site. Whilst at the History Centre, we have also been looking through the back copies of the Surrey Mirror and have beun to add and stories found therein that refer to the Lane - stories and notices have been added from 1880 and 1881, which is as far back as the records go. We also found some old photos of some advertising horadings in the Lane, which have been added to the relevant house page as well as to the Then and Now site feature. February 2005Finally we have managed to get round to posting up information about the mediaevil undercroft that is situated at the end of Nutley Lane at the junction with Upper West Street. We are greatly endebted to Paul Walters who supplied this information. December 2004A new gallery for photos and stories has been published to make it easier to find those items on the site. We are also very happy to report that, just before Christmas, the website was instrumental in helping someone trace their family history. November 2004Many photos from the 70s added and also details from No's 81 and 83; a photo of the General Store was added to the house details and also to the Then and Now Feature. October 2004Details of the history and development of Nutley Lane Church and St Mark's Mission House and many stories and photos generated from the story run the The Challenger magazine. June 2004Launch of main site. January 2004Photographs and stories added. November 2003Temporary site launched to request information and details published in Redhill and Reigate Life. |
