    Sales of Work

Report in the Mid Surrey Mirror, dated 18th November 1880.

'On Tuesday there was held a sale of work at the Convalescent Home of S. Agatha, Birkhead’s-road, for the benefit of that deserving little institution which exists for the benefit of a few favoured sick and poor, of the parish of S. Peter, London Dock. The change of air thus afforded them is most beneficial. On Thursday a similar sale took place at the Mission Room, Nutley-lane; the proceeds of which were devoted to the funds of the Church Missionary Society.'

    New Mission Room

Report in the Surrey Mirror, dated 17th September 1881

‘NEW MISSION ROOM, NUTLEY LANE— On Tuesday evening, an entertainment, consisting of music, singing, and reading, was given at this room. Miss Steele, Miss Thompson, and other ladies were present, and the display of their musical talent drew loud and frequent applause from the audience. Several members of the church choir also sang, and the readings were well done by members of the congregation. The Rev. S Rogers congratulated the people on their showing so much interest in the various institutions of the district, all of which be sincerely hoped might have an elevating and beneficial influence upon the minds and hearts of those attending them. Mr. S. Burtenshaw, in the course of some general remarks, cordially thanked the ladies and all who had helped in making the entertainment so great a success. The building was so crowded that a great many persons were unable to obtain even standing accommodation. The following services are intended to be held weekly in the new mission room.— Monday, Bible class for men and women, 7.30 p.m.; Tuesday, free entertainment—music, singing, reading, &c., 7,30 p.m.—tea, coffee, &c., provided at 8:30; Wednesday. discussion and improvement class for young men, 7-30 p m; Thursday, service in church—exposition St. John's Gospel, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, lecture on “The Prayer Book," and meeting for all Christians, 7.30 p.m.’
