  • About the Site

  • We could not have created this site without help and input from a lot of people. In particular, we would like to thank the following:

    Surrey History Centre, Woking

This has been, and will continue to be, a great source of information for this site. We have spent many hours at the centre pouring over microfilms, microfiches, old documents and maps. The centre is based in Woking, but also has a very useful website. All of the staff at the centre have been extremely helpful in aiding our investigations.

    Anouska Adamson-Parks

For lettings us see the fascinating documents concerning her house - hand-written deeds that are over 100 years old - Fantastic!

    Jean Elliott (nee Robinson)

A wealth of information concerning the top end of the Lane. This has helped us put together some many pieces of the Census jigsaw as well as giving us a wonderful flavour of life in the Lane.

    Ken Sturgess

Ken has very kindly passed on his memories of his time in Nutley Lane and the grocer's shop. Read Ken's comments.

    Sheilah and Ron Thornhill

For photos, stories and introducing us to lots of other people.

    Margaret Howland (nee Mills)

Margaret was one of the first people to get in contact with us and she has supplied some wonderful photos and stories and has been a great source of information about Nutley Grove.

    Mary Blackie

Mary has given us a lot of information about the Great Sale of Reigate.

    John Finch

We spent a good few hours with John who told us all about Jane Finch, who lived at No.55. You can find her story here.

    Toni Knight (Preston)

Toni supplied some wonderful photos from No.56, showing her father and father's father

    Alison Homewood

For some wonderful stories from Nutley Lane

    Valerie Potts

Valerie lived at No.43 Yorke Road, which is on the corner of Nutley Lane and as much part of that as it is Nutley Lane. Valerie has supplied us with some wonderful photos from and information about these from the 70s, which show a traffic-free Lane around the Yorke Road area.

    Michael Banting

With thanks for the information about No.83 and also clarifying the historical name of Nettley Lane

    Chris Sturgess

For the wonderful photo and tales from his Grandfather's General Store at No.81.

    Alan Moore

Alan produces some wonderful books featuring the history of Reigate and has kindly let us use some of his material
    Alan's books are:

    - 'A History of Redhill'
    - 'A History of Redhill - Volume Two'
    - 'The History of the Borough of Reigate Fire Brigade'

These can be purchased from, amongst other places, the Old Bookshop in Bell Street, Reigate.
